The Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District board met on October 22, 2026. Staff gave its first annual update on the South Sacramento Community Emissions Reduction Program: more than 83% of its funded strategies are underway, while three funded strategies are still being developed and nine strategies remain unfunded. The district is pursuing a Transformative Climate Communities grant with regional partners; the application is not guaranteed, and staff noted that state funding allocated for the current year is lower than the prior year. Staff also described incentive-program work with local school districts to support cleaner school buses. No contract awards, bids, vendor selections, or procurement spending approvals were identified; the consent calendar passed unanimously, but the transcript does not specify its contents.
The board received the 2026 Air Toxics Hotspots annual report after a public hearing and heard a 2025 engineering and compliance update covering facility permits, inspections, violations, complaints, and asbestos and open-burning programs. Directors discussed potential mobile-source pollution assessments near schools and use of mobile monitoring stations; staff said it could provide a comparison for one area and the chair endorsed using the stations, but no formal funding action was recorded. Staff also reported on community projects supported through penalty-funded supplemental environmental projects, including tree planting and electric-vehicle education. No other procurement activity was identified.
