The City of Anderson Planning Commission’s November 3, 2026, meeting considered two annexation and zoning requests; no procurement, contract awards, or spending actions were identified. For ANX 26-8, the commission voted 4–3 to recommend annexing 61.8 acres on Hembury Road as mixed residential (MR), for a proposed single-family subdivision of about 212 homes. Staff supported annexation and single-family development but recommended against MR zoning, favoring neighborhood residential zoning instead. Discussion focused on density, traffic, tree preservation, stormwater, noise, and the possibility of alternative industrial uses if the proposal does not proceed. The recommendation will go to City Council on November 9.

The commission also voted 6–1 to recommend annexing and zoning 4.96 acres on Salem Church Road for high-density multifamily use. The proposal is for a 54-unit affordable apartment complex and includes a one-acre public park; the applicant said a bus stop was being discussed with the city. Staff recommended approval, citing consistency with nearby multifamily development and the comprehensive plan. This recommendation will also go to City Council on November 9.
