At its November 3, 2026 regular meeting, the Diamond Bar City Council unanimously approved the consent calendar, including ratification of a check register totaling $992,180.44. The council also voted 5–0 to approve a $350,000 amendment to the city’s existing contract with West Coast Arborists, funded from the General Fund reserve, for a two-phase project to remove approximately 246 Bradford pear trees from city-owned or city-maintained areas and replant suitable locations. The budget allocates $250,000 for removal and $100,000 for replacement. Staff cited public safety and liability concerns; removals were expected to take six to eight weeks, with replanting planned for spring 2027. Staff will notify affected residents, hold a community meeting, and offer replacement tree choices; Bradford pears will not be replanted.
A resident raised a school-commute bicycle-lane safety concern and requested a traffic evaluation, but no council action was taken on that public comment. Council members also reported on local events and the opening of the Fullerton Road rail underpass, noting its reported cost of slightly more than $270 million; that project was discussed as a completed regional project, not as a procurement decision before the council.
