Select Board - 11/02/26

The Westwood Select Board met on November 2, 2026. The board reported that Special Town Meeting had approved funding for a new Fire Station 1 by 89%, with the project still requiring voter approval on ballot Question 10 the following day. If approved, the project will proceed through further public engagement, design, and review by the Permanent Building Committee, Planning Board, and Conservation Commission; a Recreation Commission subgroup is being assembled to assess field uses and amenities, including softball-field capacity and temporary replacement during construction. No new construction contract or procurement award was made at this meeting.

The board unanimously accepted a $4,620 MassDEP Recycling Dividends Program award and authorized the town administrator to execute the grant agreement and related documents. It also unanimously approved a one-day wine and malt beverage license for the New England Mountain Bike Association’s Turkey Afterburner event, subject to food-permit issuance and final public-safety inspections, and approved electronic signatures for the license. A presentation on retiree health-benefit liabilities reported an estimated 49.6% funded ratio as of June 2026 and projected full funding in 2042 under the current funding policy. No other procurement decisions were identified.
