**Tags:** Transportation, Construction & Infrastructure, Physical Infrastructure

The City of Sunnyside Municipal Airport Advisory Board’s regular meeting on October 20, 2026, focused primarily on the airport perimeter-fencing project. Members discussed an $18,597 payment for initial surveying, project management, design, and FAA coordination, and asked staff to confirm whether the applicable federal/local funding share is 95/5 or 90/10. The board discussed fence alignment, vehicle and pedestrian gate locations, utility and irrigation access, and excluding farm operations from secured airport areas; no fencing award or final design approval was recorded. Construction is anticipated next summer, subject to FAA authorization and resolution of environmental/contaminated-soil work and related funding. The board adopted the prior meeting minutes, with no opposition recorded.

Other spending-related updates included the Port’s T-hangar project, which is awaiting completion of a cultural survey, and possible asphalt work; staff also noted that a courtesy vehicle would require insurance pricing and approval through the city manager and council. Staff will pursue lease-extension requests from tenants, while a proposal for an expensive LED-lit windsock remains under review. The board also discussed preparing a brief airport emergency plan, wildlife and drone safety issues, and maintaining agricultural aviation activity. No contract award, bid approval, or specific new procurement authorization was identified.
