The City of Sunnyside City Council’s regular meeting on September 9, 2026 approved payroll vouchers totaling $634,059.61 and claim vouchers totaling $841,346.01. The Council also approved a resolution establishing FY 2027 ambulance transport rates: the updated rates are intended to better reflect service costs, while eligible Sunnyside residents remain covered by the city’s no-out-of-pocket policy and the separate rate for Grandview residents remains unchanged. The Council authorized the mayor to sign WSDOT reimbursement progress billings; staff reported four billings totaling approximately $45,000 for a pedestrian-safety sidewalk project.

The Council approved an agreement with HLA Engineering and Land Survey for preliminary engineering on the First Street and Yakima Valley Highway intersection improvement project, which would replace traffic signals with a roundabout. The project received a $296,000 grant for preliminary engineering, including $294,000 for engineering and $2,000 for state review fees; the estimated total roundabout project cost is about $2.4 million, with staff reporting that grant funding is expected to cover it without a city match. The Council also authorized submission of two Surface Transportation Block Grant applications for Lincoln Avenue resurfacing between 6th and 16th Streets, with a total project cost not to exceed $1 million; the applications are not yet awards. These procurement and infrastructure-related motions passed by roll call.
