The September 15, 2026 City Council meeting of the City of West Richland approved its consent agenda unanimously. Included were authorization for the public works director to purchase specified supplies, vehicles and/or equipment; an amendment to a site lease with ADIOC of Richland, Inc.; acceptance of the lift station retrofit project as complete; and a sewer-availability-fee waiver for Red Mountain Estates LLC related to industrial wastewater. The consent agenda also included an interlocal agreement for the 2027–2029 Ironman 70.3 Washington Tri-Cities event. The transcript does not provide purchase amounts or further contract details. Council adopted an ordinance adding a 0.1% sales and use tax for criminal justice purposes, effective January 1, 2027; the city estimated revenue of about $225,000 in 2027 and $300,000 in 2028, with funds intended to support police officer positions.
Much of the meeting’s public comment and council discussion concerned a potential data center development at Lewis and Clark Ranch. Residents urged a moratorium and additional standards for water, power, noise, environmental impacts, and cost allocation, while others spoke in favor of development and local jobs. No moratorium or data-center-related procurement or spending action was taken. Council also held the first reading of an ordinance changing fireworks sales periods and moving permit administration to community development; it was scheduled to return for a second reading on October 6, with no action taken at this meeting.
