🏗️ Construction & Infrastructure 🚨 Public Safety Physical Infrastructure Grants & Funding

The City of West Richland City Council’s August 18, 2026 meeting included a first-quarter financial report, consent items, ordinances, and comprehensive-plan resolutions. The financial report noted increased building-permit and sales-tax revenues, and reported ongoing capital spending on the State Route 224/Red Mountain project and water-system work at Wells 2 and 3; no new contract awards or specific project appropriations were presented. Council approved the consent agenda, including payment of bills and authorization for the police chief to apply for a COPS community-policing development microgrant. Public Works also reported that the Keen Road/Van Giesen roundabout, being completed by a contractor, was expected to open August 28; no contractor name or contract amount was stated.

Council passed Ordinance 18-26 establishing an admissions tax, with revenue designated for the general fund and the ordinance intended to take effect January 1, 2027; staff had not estimated annual revenue. Council also adopted resolutions accepting or adopting the economic development, parks, capital facilities, and climate elements of the comprehensive plan, without approving new spending. Separately, council directed staff to prepare proposed fireworks-ordinance changes for later review. Public comments addressed data-center impacts and safeguards, but council took no related procurement or policy action during the meeting.
