The Sunnyside City Council’s regular meeting on September 23, 2026, approved consent-agenda claims and wire transfers totaling $634,358.12 for the period September 10–18. The council also authorized an emergency purchase agreement with Picotti Brothers, Inc., for a replacement motor at Well No. 9, not to exceed $35,000; installation costs were not yet available and staff agreed to provide them. The council tabled a proposed $879,000 HLA Engineering and Land Surveying task order for planning, outreach, and design of pedestrian, bicycle, intersection, and safety improvements along Yakima Valley Highway from First to 16th Street. The work was described as grant-funded with no city match, but council members sought a clearer presentation and additional cost information before acting. The council set October 14, 2026, for a hearing on the Sugar Beet Ranch planned unit development and preliminary plat.
The council adopted ordinances updating the public-camping code and parking regulations, including a 72-hour parking limit and revised notice and impoundment procedures; these were policy and enforcement actions rather than procurement awards. Discussion also focused on oversight of city finances and invoices, crosswalk safety near the high school, and delays to a Upland Park project. Council members reached consensus that the interim city manager should provide regular weekly updates. A suicide-prevention-awareness proclamation was approved. No other contract awards or bid approvals were identified.
