At the City of Newcastle City Council meeting on September 15, 2026, the council adopted Resolution 2026-1103 approving ARCH’s 2027–2028 budget and work program. ARCH described its regional affordable-housing work and noted that nearly $1.9 million in state community-project awards has supported Newcastle projects since 2022. During discussion of the city’s draft 2027 legislative priorities, a $750,000 state capital-budget request for design work on a park at 95th was presented, alongside housing funding, tort reform, and public-safety priorities. No final legislative-priority decision was made; staff and the lobbyist team will revise the language for council consideration.
The council also voted 7–0 to direct the city manager to engage an engineering consultant to study the impacts of opening the 126th Avenue Southeast (Olympus) gate and identify potential traffic-calming measures. The vote did not decide whether the gate will be opened. The meeting included public comments on traffic and pedestrian safety, emergency access, and road conditions, as well as ceremonial proclamations. No consultant contract amount or vendor was identified.
