The City of Ridgefield Parks Board met on October 14, 2026. The board recommended that the City Council further consider a permanent park improvement involving four bat boxes and two owl boxes donated by community members, with proposed locations in five parks. Staff also reported that Council had approved replacement signs for Davis and Hayden parks. A resident raised concerns about the placement of two portable toilets at Storybook Hollow Park and asked the city to consider relocation or a permanent restroom if funding becomes available; no action was taken on that request.

Staff reported that nature-play improvements at Onzo Park had been completed through on-call contractors; remaining work includes signage and trail striping. The city has selected Sports Facilities Companies to operate the Ridgefield Community and Recreation Center, and staff are developing the agreement. The operator will be required to follow city standards, including affordability and scholarship provisions. Groundbreaking is anticipated in January or February, with construction estimated at about 18 months and opening targeted by the end of 2028. The board also discussed community priorities for the upcoming parks, recreation, and open spaces plan, including park connectivity, a skate park, pickleball facilities, and additional parks; a draft is expected to return to the board in December or January. No contract value or vote approving the recreation-center operator agreement was stated.
