At its October 15, 2026 meeting, the Ridgefield City Council approved an ordinance amendment allowing donations tied to a Council-authorized capital campaign to be administered under an agreement with a charitable foundation without bringing each donation back for approval. Council adopted the amendment on first reading after waiving a second reading. The change is limited to specifically authorized campaigns; one-off donations over $25,000 and naming-rights approvals remain subject to Council review, and staff said Council would receive periodic donation updates. In discussing the recreation center campaign, staff reported that Sports Facilities Companies was preparing operating-fee scenarios, with a broader financial review expected at a November study session before any lease or bonding action.
Council also unanimously approved an $882,741 construction-administration-services contract with EDA Architects for the approximately 43,000-square-foot Ridgefield Community and Recreation Center, funded from $15 million in bond funds. The contract includes oversight and invoicing safeguards intended to keep costs below the authorized amount; Tapani Underground had previously been approved as the construction contractor. Separately, Public Works reported that an August request for proposals for knotweed control at Abrams Park received four bids; the selected bid was about 40% below estimate, and the City was negotiating with the contractor, with an award not reported at this meeting. Council also approved Resolution 683 affiliating Ridgefield with Bee City USA; the resolution supports pollinator habitat, education, and the City’s existing integrated pest management plan.
