The City of Ridgefield Parks Board meeting on September 9, 2026, considered two recommendations with budget or operational implications. The board voted to recommend replacing the deteriorating Davis Park sign with the presented design; the work is expected before year-end and will be paid from the general park fund, though no cost or sign manufacturer was identified. Staff described a new internal signage policy to standardize park signs and improve the process, and said UV-protective materials would be used. The board also voted to recommend that City Council adopt a Bee City USA resolution. Participation would cost $200 annually and formalize existing pollinator-friendly practices, with the Parks Board proposed as the program’s governing body.

In updates, staff reported that City Council approved a development agreement with Blue Rock Ventures on August 27 for the Ridgefield Community and Recreation Center. Under the arrangement, the developer will build two-thirds of the facility on city-owned land; the building is privately owned under a long-term agreement with public-use requirements, and the city is backing the developer’s loan, creating potential financial exposure. The facility’s operator contract is still under negotiation, with an award expected to go to Council by year-end; no operator was named. Staff also reported that a capital campaign is pursuing major naming-rights donations, with possible eight-figure contributions, and that construction is expected to take about 18 months after a planned January or February groundbreaking. No contract amount or final operator award was provided. A public commenter also urged the city to protect parkland and trails in connection with a road-route decision scheduled for City Council consideration on September 24.
