At its October 21, 2026 Planning Commission meeting, the City of Ridgefield held a public hearing and voted to recommend that City Council adopt the Envision Ridgefield 2045 comprehensive plan, with commissioners’ comments to be forwarded for consideration. The plan sets a framework for accommodating projected population, housing, and job growth through 2045, covering land use, housing, transportation, capital facilities, parks, environmental protection, and climate resiliency. Staff said agency comments and final updates to the capital facilities plan were still being incorporated; the plan is expected to go to Council in November, with adoption consideration anticipated in December and related municipal code updates in the first half of 2027.

Public and commissioner comments focused on waterfront housing capacity, traffic and emergency access, infrastructure, connected trails and sidewalks, parks, and environmental protections. Commissioners questioned whether projected 2045 traffic conditions account for an estimated $400 million in road investments; staff agreed to seek clarification of the traffic table. Staff clarified that the waterfront’s existing mixed-use designation allows but does not require residential development, and that the plan does not propose changing that designation. A resident also requested a solution for screening or relocating temporary park restrooms. No contract awards, vendor selections, bids, or procurement actions were identified; the $400 million figure was discussed as an estimated road investment, not an approved expenditure.
