At its August 12, 2026 meeting, the City of Ridgefield Parks Board heard a presentation on the city’s application for a $500,000 Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program grant for the Horn’s Corner Inclusive Playground. The project was described as costing $1.75 million, with $375,000 approved in the city’s 2026 budget and a $200,000 Playcore contribution, alongside other local funding. The application was presented for later state review; the board did not award a contract or approve the grant application at this meeting. Members discussed accessible parking, restrooms, playground features, project phasing, and the grant review schedule. Staff said an ADA-accessible temporary restroom would be provided, and that final parking details could be considered during construction planning.

In a parks and recreation update, staff reported that City Council had awarded the Ridgefield Community and Recreation Center construction contract to Tapani and the construction management contract to Cummings Group. Pacific Northwest Fundraising had been engaged to assess a capital campaign. A separate RFP for a firm to operate the community center closed July 15, with proposal review and possible interviews forthcoming; proposals must address equitable access, including measures such as scholarships or affordable fees. Staff also reported that Abrams Park had been selected for the next round of grant funding, with an overall project budget stated as approximately $1.284 million, for shelters, playground improvements, and work at Enslow Nature Play. The parks plan and public engagement process are ongoing.
