The City of Ridgefield City Council held a study session on October 1, 2026, to review draft land use, transportation, housing, and climate-resiliency elements for the Envision Ridgefield 2045 comprehensive plan. Discussion covered planning for projected growth to just over 27,000 residents by 2045, including capacity for about 5,800 additional housing units; council members noted that the challenge is providing the appropriate range of housing types and affordability, which the draft addresses in part through zoning and mixed-use areas. Transportation comments focused on multimodal travel, traffic and emergency access, transit service, school-related congestion, and the need for reliable, diverse transportation funding. Staff agreed to seek updated C-Tran ridership data, including a year-over-year comparison, and to consider council feedback on the draft policies.
Council also discussed climate-policy wording, including solar access, transit and multimodal connections, extreme cold as a natural hazard, and how to keep long-range policies flexible for future councils. No contracts, vendor selections, bid approvals, spending allocations, or procurement votes were identified. Staff said the draft was ready for formal notice and public review; the Planning Commission hearing was scheduled for October 21, with a Council hearing expected in November.
