The Groton Board of Education Special Curriculum Committee met remotely on November 2, 2026. The committee approved the October 7 minutes as amended. The assistant superintendent presented world-language enrollment data for grades 6–12, including enrollment and course requests for French, Spanish, and American Sign Language (ASL). Members discussed ASL access and staffing, the elementary world-language program, and the fact that its grant funding is ending after the current year. The committee agreed to recommend that future world-language offerings return to the full board for discussion, with budget decisions and additional input from parents, teachers, and school leaders identified as next steps. No contracts, vendor selections, or procurement actions were discussed.

The committee also reviewed physical education standards and state fitness assessment results. The district’s accountability index rose from 70.2 to 72.2, while its fitness assessment score was 46% compared with a 50% state average; high-school participation remained below the 90% target. Staff strategies discussed included improving participation, sharing practices across schools, and helping students set fitness goals. The meeting adjourned after the discussion.
