The City of Pompano Beach Commission met on October 27, 2026. The commission considered an amendment extending the Hillsborough Lighthouse Preservation Society’s agreement to operate the Lighthouse Museum at Roy Rogers Park through 2031, under the same terms and conditions; the roll-call segment recorded affirmative votes. It also reviewed whether to bring the Community Partnership Program services provided by Strategic Philanthropy Incorporated (SPI) in-house. Staff reported annual costs of approximately $68,300, with a maximum contractual obligation of $70,160, and estimated that in-house delivery could cost about $79,000 more annually, excluding transition costs. Staff recommended keeping the arrangement through its April 2027 expiration and revisiting program funding and administration during the FY2028 budget process. The commission unanimously voted that any renewal of the SPI contract must return to the commission for approval before it is renewed. Commissioners also requested further review of program scoring and nonprofit funding criteria, including one-on-one briefings and comparative information; no SPI renewal or new award was approved at this meeting.
Other financial and operational matters included second-reading approval of an ordinance implementing previously negotiated changes to retirement benefits for new firefighters. Commissioners discussed concerns about BSO investigations and the existing contract, including a potential city takeover estimated at $160 million, but no new direction or procurement action was taken on that issue. A commissioner also requested a list of deferred-maintenance projects with their age and estimated costs, including paving needs; staff agreed to provide information based on the city’s five-year plan. The meeting also included public comments about law enforcement, nonprofit services, housing, and election campaigning, and a proclamation recognizing the Brazilian Business Group’s 20th anniversary.
