The Town of Mount Pleasant’s committee meetings and special Town Council meeting on November 2, 2026, included two notable funding and procurement actions. The Bids and Purchases committee approved moving forward with negotiations for the Old Village Oral History and Miriam Brown Community Center conceptual design project with New South Associates, Inc.; if negotiations fail, staff may approach the second-ranked firm, Keystone Civic Strategies, and then Capia Cole Architects, Inc. Eight proposals were evaluated and three firms interviewed. Staff said the contract was expected to exceed $100,000, and the authorization allows contracting if negotiations are successful. Separately, Council accepted a FY2026 U.S. Department of Homeland Security Port Security Grant of $127,500 for a navigation-system upgrade to a previously awarded Safe Boat, with a $42,500 town match from the capital fund. The grant period runs September 1, 2026, through August 31, 2029. The committee also approved recommending an increase in the threshold for Council approval of grants from $100,000 to $250,000; grants without budgeted matching funds would still require Council approval, and staff offered to provide periodic grant reports.
