At its November 2, 2026 meeting, the Stow-Munroe Falls City School District Board of Education received an update on the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW) financial action plan. The forecast showed deficits of just under $4 million in FY2027, nearly $10 million in FY2028, and $12.2 million in FY2029, with continued reductions needed even if the five-year, $4.63 million fixed-sum levy renewal passes. Staff outlined areas for review, including staffing, vendor contracts, purchasing, shared services, transportation, and possible facility changes. The board was asked to consider approving the plan on November 23 for submission by November 30; no vote on the plan occurred at this meeting.
The discussion cited potential and realized budget effects, including roughly $870,000 in projected open-enrollment tuition over multiple years, $865,000 from the Forestbrook property sale, more than $850,000 in insurance-premium savings, and a workers’ compensation refund of about $111,000. Board members debated how staffing reductions and substitute costs through Renhill (reported at about $600,000) affect reported savings; no procurement award or contract approval was made. The board also discussed concerns about distributing donated Constitution booklets carrying a third-party organization’s branding and QR code, but no final action on distribution was recorded.
