Butte School District #1 held a special final-budget meeting on November 2, 2026 (the meeting title references August 20, 2026) to review the FY 2026–27 budget and tax levies. The presentation described a roughly $24.97 million adopted budget, including about $7.8 million in county base distributions, and explained that the district’s budgeted funds increased by approximately $741,000 from the prior year. The elementary budget was reported to be up about $337,000, or 2.6%. The combined levy was expected to fall from 197.43 to 148.43 mills; the presenter cautioned that estimated household tax amounts could vary under the state’s tiered property-tax system. The board moved to adopt the final budget and fix the levies, then approved the budget resolutions by vote so they could be submitted to the county. No vendor selections, contract awards, or purchasing approvals were identified.
The board also reviewed revenue and fund assumptions, including increased Quality Educator Payments (about $1.7 million), tuition-related costs, special-education funding, reserves nearing the 10% limit, and internal multi-district fund allocations. Members discussed that the elementary technology levy approved in 2017 expires this year; staff are preparing information for a possible future levy, expected to exceed $300,000, but no levy was approved at this meeting. In the subsequent board-goals work session, members discussed adding goals related to legislative engagement and school safety, along with a district public-relations plan; proposed language will be circulated for review, with adoption expected at a later meeting.
