The City of Davis Human Relations Commission met on October 22, 2026. Commissioners approved the agenda with a change in the order of items and approved the August 27 meeting minutes on the consent calendar. After discussion, the commission favored retaining its three-minute public-comment allowance, noting that the chair can adjust speaking time when needed. The commission also approved meeting dates of November 30 and December 16, subject to follow-up about public-comment procedures for special meetings and new appointees’ availability.

Discussion focused on community concerns about hate incidents and increased immigration-enforcement activity, with staff working to establish a monthly process for reporting hate incidents and commissioners awaiting a broader update on sanctuary-city and immigrant-safety work. The commission began planning the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. Day event with community advocate Sandy Holman, considering possible themes, performances, a march, and service or educational activities. Commissioners also discussed future committee assignments for incoming members and received updates on school-district and UC Davis inclusion-related efforts. No procurement, contracting, purchasing, or budget-allocation activity was identified.
