Austin ISD Regular Voting Meeting of the Board of Trustees, October 29, 2026. The board reviewed the district’s finances and cost-reduction plans. Staff projected a $39 million operating surplus after updated revenue and expense estimates, including roughly $16 million in improved revenue assumptions and additional funds associated with the Brooke sale that the district said would be placed in fund balance. The district had identified $25.7 million toward a $31 million reduction target due by December, with about $5 million still to find; staff also noted that approximately $10 million in additional reductions would be needed to reach a 15% fund balance. Forecast costs included increased transportation expenses, including diesel, and a tax revenue anticipation note. Trustees requested further budget and attendance information, but no additional budget cuts were approved during the discussion.
The board approved the consent agenda unanimously, including legislative priorities, and approved the Linder Elementary School boundary change for 2027–28 and the August 2026 budget amendment report, both by 7–0 votes. It also approved an interlocal agreement with the University of Texas at Austin for a K–12-related purpose; the transcript records Trustees Foster and Gonzalez abstaining. The administration presented draft AI administrative guidance that would include procurement and vendor requirements, but the board took no action on it. Staff also reported receiving $380,000 to support employees pursuing education degrees and applying for up to $1.5 million over three years. No RFPs, competitive bids, or vendor contract awards were identified; action on agenda items 13.4 and 13.5 was deferred at the administration’s request.
