🚨 Public Safety 🏗️ Construction & Infrastructure Grants & Funding Physical Infrastructure

The Oswego County Legislature’s Public Safety Committee held its regular meeting on November 2, 2026. The committee approved a resolution accepting a $400,000 New York State Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services VFire grant (project number 0826) for fire-service use, including two mobile command units. The county will administer the grant, pay costs up front, and seek reimbursement over the three-year grant period. Members also approved budget transfers, including $15,000 for Sheriff’s Office vehicle tires and transfers for overtime, jail housing costs, and outfitting new police cars with insurance-recovery funds. The Sheriff’s Office said it expected overtime spending of about $925,000 this year, compared with roughly $977,000 last year, and attributed some costs to vacancies and correctional transports.

Public Safety staff reported that the 911 center renovation is underway, including cabling and improvements to a backup center; an HVAC bid process for the Oswego 911 center is being prepared with a proposal expected at the next meeting. The revised HVAC approach is intended to place the center on a separate system because the building’s generator cannot support additional electrical load. Staff also described planned camera-location mapping updates with Critical Response Group and a free state employee-notification system for which a resolution to enter the arrangement was anticipated. No contract award or HVAC bid approval occurred at this meeting.
