The City of Acworth Board of Aldermen’s November 2, 2026 work session and special called meeting considered a variance for North Cobb Christian School, a proposed hotel-motel tax agreement, a data-center moratorium, and capital-project funding. The board approved the 12-month data-center moratorium. It also approved its consent agenda, which included the resolution and agreement with Cobb Travel and Tourism to administer the city’s 8% hotel-motel excise tax under a revised revenue-sharing arrangement. Based on FY2026 collections of about $506,000, the proposal retains the city’s 37.5% general-fund share and directs the remaining 62.5% through Cobb Travel and Tourism; staff said the arrangement would increase funding for local tourism promotion. The school variance was also moved to the consent agenda for the November 19 meeting.
The city manager reported a $13 million Safe Streets for All grant for the Nance Road project, requiring a $4 million match, for a total project funding package of about $17 million. The match is expected to depend in part on SPLOST approval; staff said engineering proposals could be solicited to define the project scope. Bids for about $900,000 in milling and overlay work in several neighborhoods came in on budget, with approval to proceed expected on a later agenda; no award was made at this meeting. Staff also reported gathering proposals for an Allatoona Gateway community improvement district and shortlisting consultants for the 2027 comprehensive plan. The real-time crime center presentation described current police drone and analysis capabilities, but no related purchase or contract action was considered.
