The Atlanta Board of Education’s November 2, 2026 community meeting focused on district finances, school facilities, enrollment and zoning changes, charter renewal, and public comment ahead of the following day’s E-SPLOST referendum. The superintendent reported approximately $158 million in total general fund balance, including about $100 million unrestricted—roughly one month of operating reserves—and cited about $61.5 million in additional needs for strategic investments. The district also described capital investments made or proposed through E-SPLOST, including school projects, IT infrastructure, buses, safety vestibules, a proposed new school at the AD Williams site, improvements at Midtown/Washington High School, and possible restoration of the Hollis planetarium and pool. No contract awards, vendor selections, procurement approvals, or spending votes occurred during this meeting; the referendum vote was scheduled for November 3.

Public speakers urged support for the referendum and requested timely facility investments, especially a comprehensive Hope Hill Elementary renovation. Speakers cited an estimated $5.3 million in repairs at Hope Hill, including more than $1.2 million in critical immediate needs, and sought use of remaining 2022 E-SPLOST funds for urgent safety work. Other requested projects included renovations at Sarah Smith Elementary and a North Atlanta High School stadium. Beecher Hills families sought written transition plans, staffing and resource budgets, and transportation and safety plans related to proposed enrollment changes. Speakers also advocated for renewal of the Kindezi charter and raised concerns about school closures and rezoning. These comments were requests and advocacy, not board approvals.
