The City of Davis Recreation and Park Commission met on October 21, 2026. Staff reported that an RFP had opened for the Civic Gym, with the goal of activating the space for additional indoor youth athletics; no selection, award, or contract amount was reported. Staff also discussed ongoing landscape maintenance by contractor BrightView and internal crews, including performance monitoring against city standards. Battery-powered maintenance equipment remains under evaluation: staff cited a prior battery purchase of more than $10,000 and individual batteries costing about $500, and described a hybrid approach because of equipment reliability, charging, productivity, and budget constraints. No procurement vote or new spending authorization was identified. Staff also reported completion of the state’s final inspection and grant payment for the Natalie's Corner splash pad project, and described upcoming park improvements and community-partner volunteer work.

Commissioners heard public concerns about trash and field wear at parks used by a rented adult soccer league, and discussed staffing, maintenance standards, sports-field care, and preparation for winter storms. Staff presented the 2026 summer-program results, including contracted camps and classes, enrollment, and inclusion services; no related contract awards or purchasing decisions were reported. In the General Plan discussion, commissioners emphasized protecting existing parks and considering developer contributions toward long-term park maintenance. The commission approved the June 17, 2026 minutes, with one abstention, and unanimously approved a calendar change establishing July, August, and December as recess months, while retaining a June park walk. The agenda was approved unanimously.
