The Milton Public Schools School Committee meeting, dated October 28, 2026, reviewed district finances, school construction planning, and educational performance. The finance update reported that the first-quarter budget was on track and outlined early FY2028 budget planning, including a gap between projected town revenue and the cost of maintaining current district operations. The committee plans further budget coordination with the Select Board’s Finance Committee. Warrants 15–17 were reported as approved; the transcript’s spoken amounts for two warrants are unclear. The superintendent reported grants of $10,000 from Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Milton for an everyday speech curriculum, $10,000 for MyCAP planning, and a $15,000 DESE innovation grant; the district is also pursuing a $15,000 DESE grant for next year’s MyCAP work and has applied for a $550,000 innovation grant for next year. Town Meeting approved expedited funding for the Tucker playground, though no amount was stated.
On facilities, Town Meeting voted to acquire the Laboure property, with a townwide vote still required in December. If the purchase does not proceed, the district will continue investigating a pre-K option at Gile Road as part of its MSBA process. DLR was selected as the project architect by the designer selection board, and the town is preparing contracts; no contract amount was provided. The committee also received a presentation on MCAS results and instructional priorities, and unanimously approved desired characteristics for the next superintendent. No other contract award or purchasing vote was identified.
