The Gaston County Board of Commissioners held a special meeting on October 30, 2026, to consider adopting the 2027 Schedule of Values for the countywide property reappraisal, as required under North Carolina law. Staff described the schedule as a framework for valuing individual properties and said the work had been underway since the 2023 reappraisal. Commissioners discussed public concerns, appraisal methods, the remaining valuation work, and the state appeal process, which allows challenges to the schedule within 30 days of adoption. Staff also noted the county’s 2026 assessment ratio was 86%, and that a delay could risk a state-required reappraisal and leave commercial and industrial assessments out of balance with residential assessments, with possible effects on tax burdens and revenue.

The board approved the 2027 Schedule of Values by a 4–2 vote. Commissioners expressed differing levels of confidence in the staff’s work; one member said they could not support adoption at that time, while others supported the process. Property value-change notices were expected toward the end of February. No procurement activity, contracts, vendor selections, or purchasing decisions were identified.
