🏗️ Construction & Infrastructure 🚨 Public Safety Physical Infrastructure Grants & Funding

The County of San Luis Obispo’s Virtual El Niño Community Meeting on November 5, 2026, focused on storm-season preparedness, emergency response, and infrastructure risks. County officials and a meteorologist discussed possible heavy rainfall, flooding, high tides, coastal erosion, and strong winds, while advising residents to prepare emergency supplies, make family communication and evacuation plans, avoid unnecessary travel, and sign up for local emergency alerts. Officials described coordination among the county, cities, special districts, and response agencies; no motions or votes were reported.

Public Works reported spending about $300,000 more on its roads budget in the first quarter than in the comparable period last year, with additional work on vegetation trimming, culvert inspections and maintenance, and debris and ditch clearing. The county said it was about 90% complete with repairs from the 2023 storms and had completed more than 300 repair projects; bridge replacements, levee reinforcement, and drainage improvements were also discussed. A flood-prone property in Oceano was acquired and removed from the floodplain through a federal grant program, and a Creek Lands contract provides free technical assistance to private property owners. Officials noted that funding for further drainage projects is limited and may depend on grants or property-owner-funded benefit zones. No new contract award or bid approval was identified.
