The City of Worcester Historical Commission met on October 29, 2026, to review building alteration and demolition applications, historic significance, and commission business. The commission approved projects at 1 Oak Street (in-kind roof replacement), 171 Austin Street (basement perimeter drain, replacement stairs and rear porch, with original pipe rails retained), 50 Cedar Street (synthetic slate roofing and copper flashing), 37 Somerset Street (ductless heat-pump system), and 22 Whitman Road (rear-yard fence, with existing fence sections to be salvaged). At 54 Mason Street, it issued a leave to withdraw after finding the property no longer retained sufficient historic integrity. The commission unanimously denied a 12-month demolition-delay waiver for 112 Grove Street, where the applicant proposed demolishing a mill-complex building and fencing the lot; staff noted surface parking would not be allowed at that site under current zoning.

The commission found 4 King Street locally historically significant for architecture and broad patterns of local history for purposes of a potential Community Preservation Act funding application, and accepted the FY2026 Certified Local Government annual report. Staff also reported violations at 58 West Street, including paving work that had been removed; an application is under review, and potential fines may be considered at a future meeting. No contract awards, bids, vendor selections, or other procurement activity were identified.
