At the September 3, 2026 Mercer Island Parks and Recreation Commission meeting, staff reported that the City Council had awarded the Luther Burbank Park Dock and Waterfront Improvement construction contract to Quigg Bros. Inc. for $6,730,000. Construction is expected to begin in fall 2026 and last approximately 15–18 months, with portions of the park closed during the work. The Commission also heard that staff will bring forward a future update on the project. No procurement motion or vote was taken by the Commission; it approved the June 4 meeting minutes by motion and vote.

Public commenters urged the City to support a stable, ultimately permanent home for the Mercer Island Rowing Club, highlighting the summer pilot’s participation and community demand; the Commission took no action on that request. Staff also reported that community engagement on e-bikes in parks had received about 700 survey responses, and the King County Library System described its new automated materials-handling system at a Renton warehouse. A commissioner relayed the library Friends’ request to explore storage space at the facility, with follow-up anticipated; no funding or purchasing decision was reported.
