The Mercer Island Parks & Recreation Commission met October 1, 2026, to receive department updates and review the 2026 summer recreation season. Staff reported that a consultant solicitation is underway for a limited-scope parks and recreation planning process building on the 2022 PROS Plan; a joint kickoff with the Parks & Recreation Commission, Arts Council, and Open Space Conservancy Trust is planned for December 2026. No consultant selection or contract award was reported. Staff also noted that a parks capital project update is scheduled for the commission’s November meeting. The department has acquired a synthetic-turf sweeper, but no vendor or purchase amount was provided.

The summer recap reported nearly 1,200 camp registrations and approximately $79,000 in city camp revenue, exceeding the $60,000 goal by just over $19,000. Most camps operate through contractor arrangements with the city receiving revenue shares generally ranging from 20% to 30%. A pilot rowing camp with the Mercer Island Rowing Club served 122 participants and was described as successful, with staff indicating a similar arrangement could be considered next summer under established operating guidelines. Staff also reported $12,485 in parking revenue associated with FIFA match days, when programs, events, and facility rentals were not scheduled to reduce traffic impacts. The commission approved meeting minutes and an absence-related motion; no procurement award or spending motion was reported.
