The City of Elkhart Board of Aviation Commissioners met on October 28, 2026. The board approved the claims and allowances docket for approximately $220,940 and authorized solicitation of quotes and award to the lowest responsive bidder for repairs to the EAA building roof, with the aviation department to pay the cost. It also approved the Indiana Flight Center Hangar 31 lease, ratified a new T-hangar 73 lease, and approved a payment agreement for Marty King. The director reported that airport snow-and-ice equipment was being serviced for winter operations.
The board approved an INDOT pavement-maintenance grant application covering crack sealing and airfield-marking work, and selected Highlight’s low painting quote of $41,822; the other quotes were $71,578.70 and $135,870. The approximately $130,000 combined project includes a $12,000 not-to-exceed BFNS professional-services agreement. The state share was estimated at $97,726.50, with a $32,575.50 local share expected to be covered by prior crack-sealing expenditures. The board also approved the 2027–2032 capital improvement plan, which includes a proposed crack-sealing machine, runway-lighting work, easement acquisitions estimated at $550,000 (with about $354,000 anticipated from INDOT), and later taxiway rehabilitation. Votes on the discussed approvals were affirmative.
