The Portage County Board of Commissioners’ regular meeting on October 29, 2026 included several spending and procurement-related actions. The board approved up to $40,000 in CDBG housing revolving-loan funds for potential change orders as construction is finalized for the 2024 CHIP and county home-repair program. It also approved specifications and a bid date for the Water Resources Department’s purchase of various chemicals, and amended a prior resolution awarding the Village of Mantua sanitary sewer rehabilitation contract to correct a clerical error. The board approved the October 22 bills and budget amendments and a transfer from the public assistance fund to child support administration. Internal Services reported a delayed final RTU installation, expected the week of December 14, and discussed a proposed $1,200 one-week transformer monitoring service; no approval of that service was recorded.

Job and Family Services reported changes involving five transportation vendors and described a roughly $500,000 reduction in SNAP administrative funding, with about $140,000 subsequently restored by the state. The agency said it was using available funds for overtime and training to address a Medicaid-application backlog. Regional Planning discussed a roughly $99,000 year-end cash-flow shortfall, project revenue that did not materialize, and staff reductions decided by its executive committee; commissioners did not approve financial assistance during this discussion. The board also entered executive session regarding security and emergency-response protocols, with no action afterward, and acknowledged a request for security during extended ballot-cure hours.
