🏗️ Construction & Infrastructure 🚚 Transportation Physical Infrastructure Grants & Funding

The joint Springs and North Sonoma Valley Municipal Advisory Councils meeting with Caltrans, held October 29, 2026, consisted of agency presentations and public comment; no substantive council action or votes were scheduled. Caltrans outlined nine Highway 12-area projects at various stages, including six funded through the State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOP). The State Route 12 Verano intersection project was advertised in October, with bids scheduled to open November 5 and construction planned for spring 2027; no award was reported. Caltrans also cited an approximately $42 million SHOP investment for a separate safety project near State Route 121 and 8th Street East. Other updates included planned pavement rehabilitation, crosswalks, shoulder and curve improvements, and the Verano-area Donald Street sidewalk connection.

County and partner agencies described eight bicycle and pedestrian projects. The Donald Street Gap project has funding for design and environmental work, but not construction; the State Route 121/8th Street East project is funded through design and is seeking additional funding, including potential SB 1 and SHOP support. The Arnold Drive bike-lane project has construction funding and is planned to begin in 2027; the Watmaugh Road bridge replacement is under construction. SCTCA’s Safe Routes to School grant supports planning and preliminary concepts, not funded construction projects. Public Infrastructure noted constrained road-maintenance resources, with District 1 able to repair about five roads every two years and road repairs costing approximately $1 million per mile. No contract awards or purchasing approvals were made.
