AVUHSD’s Oct. 29, 2026 regular board work-study focused on student cell-phone use and implementation of California’s phone policy. Trustees heard student survey findings and discussed classroom distraction, music and phone use for learning, inconsistent enforcement, transitions from middle school, and the reliability and age of student Chromebooks and internet access. Students and trustees suggested further research, gathering input from general-education students, and considering gradual implementation; no phone-policy change or technology purchase was approved. A proposed student screen-time incentive campaign and a possible grant for better devices were suggestions only.

In an educational-services action item, the board approved renewal of the agreement with M-Pass Education for the Math Literacy Project, contract EDS202627049; no dollar amount was stated.
