Body
BCPS-TV
Date
October 27, 2026
Jurisdiction
State & Local
The BCPS-TV Curriculum Committee met virtually on October 28, 2026, to receive an update on districtwide foundational literacy implementation for the 2026–27 school year. Staff described structured literacy in kindergarten through grade 2 and cursive handwriting in grades 2–3, with cursive planned to expand to grade 4 next year. The update covered teacher and administrator training, coaching and classroom observations, demonstration classrooms, family activities through TalkingPoints, and use of student progress data to guide support. Staff said HMH now provides both foundational skills and language comprehension, replacing Open Court for the relevant instruction; HMH and vendor partners were mentioned in the context of curriculum and implementation support.
Committee members asked about administrator training, family engagement, student access to cursive instruction, substitute shortages affecting classroom visits, and targeted support for teachers. Staff will consider additional ways to share family activities and are recording demonstration lessons so teachers can access them without leaving their schools. No procurement actions, contract awards, spending decisions, or votes were identified; no specific contract amounts or vendor awards were discussed.
