The Reading Conservation Commission meeting on October 28, 2026, addressed wetlands hearings, compliance requests, and administrative updates. The Commission voted unanimously to continue the 695 Pearl Street hearing to November 18. It also voted to continue the 589 Pearl Street tree-removal application to November 18, requesting a revised plan identifying the trees, additional native tree plantings, proposed snags, and further information on treating the tree of heaven and addressing an existing shed in the no-structure zone. Certificates of compliance were approved for Birch Meadow Park Phase 2 (file 270-0764) and 20 Nugent Lane (file 270-0248). For Nugent Lane, the discussion noted a $250 payment to the town shade tree fund in lieu of replacing one dead tree; this was not a new contract award.
The Commission discussed a separate town capital-planning item: a town meeting warrant request for $120,000 to help restore Matera Cabin so it can be rented again. The funding was described as a line item within the town’s capital improvement planning, rather than a stand-alone procurement approval; no contract, vendor selection, or purchase was approved at this meeting. Other updates included a planned DPW discussion about trees and reports on conservation-area maintenance and a watershed walk.
