The Scituate Waterways Commission met on October 28, 2026, and unanimously recommended selling the 34-foot Calvin Beal, 21-foot Boston Whaler, and 16-foot rigid-bottom boat, and purchasing Marshfield’s 31-foot Safe Boat for its $300,000 asking price. The recommendation will be provided to the Capital Planning Committee; it is not a final purchase award. Members discussed the vessel’s suitability for harbor patrol, rescue, and emergency response, training and coordination with the fire department, and using a portable fire pump. Estimated sale proceeds included about $275,000–$300,000 for the Calvin Beal, $20,000–$30,000 for the Whaler, and $5,000–$8,000 for the smaller boat. The commission also reviewed existing debt and future capital needs, noting roughly $47,000–$48,000 in annual debt payments and the uncertainty of grant funding.

Other capital updates included the town meeting vote to move forward with the $3.8 million Pier 44 project and the Select Board’s hiring of GZA for South River dredge design and engineering, subject to coordination with Marshfield. The Harbor Master also reported that Woods Hole Group had submitted a revised harbor-dredging schedule and was expected to provide information for MEPA. Shellfish staff reported plans to propagate 60,000 half-inch quahogs, with grant funding anticipated for related work.
