At its October 28, 2026 meeting, the Monongalia County Commission approved the consent agenda, including vouchers totaling $3,315,803.36 and 10 tax exonerations totaling $422,833.76. Officials explained that the large exoneration involved a clerical error affecting personal-property accounts associated with EQM Midstream Partners and Hammerhead Midstream. The commission also approved a $288,366 Sexual Assault Kit Initiative grant and authorized the commission president to sign the grant documents. It approved an engagement letter with The Arbitrage Group, Inc. for calculations concerning 2026 University Town Center property and excess tax-district funds; no fee was stated. Other financial actions included certifying the 2025 delinquent-tax list and approving a $12,314.94 refund related to a canceled tax-sale certificate, with one commissioner abstaining because of prior representation of the petitioner in an unrelated matter.

The commission approved a full-time sheriff’s transport officer position at $3,333.34 per month, plus insurance. A county official reported that Emma Drive had temporarily reopened and that the county was working with DEP toward a permanent repair; a scope of work and contract are still pending. The Youth Livestock Association reported that it had purchased $32,000 in pens and supplies and thanked the county for prior funding support. Residents urged the commission to cancel Flock Safety camera contracts and raised concerns about surveillance and opioid-settlement spending, but the commission took no action on those issues during the meeting.
