The Coffee County, Tennessee Health, Welfare and Recreation Committee met on October 27, 2026. Animal Control Director Craig Boyd reported that shelter operations were proceeding routinely, with more than 50 animals at the facility and out-of-state rescue organizations helping place animals. The committee discussed proposed shelter hours, including a designated period for public walk-ins while staff clean and care for animals. The proposal was to proceed to the legislative committee and then Policy and Procedure for review; the transcript does not clearly capture a final vote on the proposal.
Members also discussed whether to offer monthly Saturday access and allow community volunteers to assist at the shelter. Staffing, scheduling, and liability concerns were raised, and members suggested revisiting the issue with the county’s current attorneys and reviewing practices at other shelters. The committee set its next meeting for November 17 at 6:00 p.m. No procurement, contract, or spending activity was identified.
