The Redmond Planning Commission meeting on October 28, 2026, addressed transportation planning amendments, neighborhood connection maps, and proposed permanent zoning regulations for commercial drones. On the Transportation Facilities Plan (TFP), commissioners accepted staff clarifications on prioritization and environmental-review language and requested a formal report and recommendation to City Council. Staff said planning-level cost estimates—including an estimate for the Northeast 72nd Street project with a shared-use path—would be added to the TFP; no dollar amounts or procurement actions were reported. For the neighborhood connections map, staff identified five connections missing from the transportation master plan maps and scheduled a new public hearing for December 2. No contracts, vendor selections, or spending approvals were made.
The main discussion concerned draft commercial drone zoning rules, which would distinguish drone hubs, accessory hubs, and access points and limit where each could locate. Commissioners requested more information on environmental review, noise and safety risks, liability, public input, surrounding-city rules, economic and sustainability claims, and the rationale for the proposed zones and timeline. No recommendation or vote on the drone regulations was taken; staff will update the issues matrix for continued discussion. Public commenters also raised questions about drone-related transparency and conflicts of interest, PFAS testing near drinking-water wells, and arborist review under the draft tree code.
