The City of Auburn, Maine, Planning Board met on October 28, 2026, to deliberate on recommendations for the city’s draft comprehensive plan. The board unanimously recommended several amendments covering fiscally responsible growth, citywide landscaping and buffering standards, board and committee input into budget and planning processes, micromobility guidance and regulations, winter sidewalk maintenance, parks and trail stewardship, public waterfront access, and broadband mapping and digital equity planning. It also unanimously recommended reducing street design speeds and creating a stormwater management utility fee framework, amended to exclude single-family residential properties. No contracts, vendor selections, bids, or direct spending approvals were identified.
The board rejected a proposed change to require parking maximums, while approving the street-speed recommendation separately. It voted 5–2 to retain the Comprehensive Plan Committee’s high-density-core designation near Exit 75 after a motion to change it to a mixed-use corridor failed 2–5. A proposal to allow residential development in the agricultural/resource-protection category failed 3–4, leaving the committee’s language unchanged; a compact-residential map adjustment near Poland Road was approved unanimously. The recommendations will be forwarded to the City Council for consideration and may shape future land-use and infrastructure planning.
