The Somerville Biosafety Committee met remotely on October 22, 2026, to review recombinant DNA permit applications for Flagship Labs 129 and 130 at 101 South Street. The companies described planned biomedical research involving yeast-based protein display, human cell lines, and third-generation lentiviral systems, along with BSL-2 practices, training, containment, and waste procedures. Flagship also reported that FL 107 and FL 101 had shut down and their former spaces were decontaminated and returned to the landlord. Existing service providers named included Triumvirate for hazardous and biological waste, Mount Auburn for occupational health, EH&E for safety consulting, and other laboratory and facilities vendors; no new contract award or spending amount was discussed.

The committee approved both applications with conditions, subject to edits clarifying responsibility and procedures for hazmat response in the emergency plan and resubmission of the revised language. The chair said the applicants could proceed with payment and receive their permits after the conditions were addressed. The committee also discussed evacuation planning for people with disabilities, backup power, and communication among companies sharing the facility; these were not made additional approval conditions.
