The Somerville Wage Theft Advisory Committee held a remote meeting on October 28, 2026, and elected Mary Anne Wallace as chair. Members reviewed and adopted the committee’s priorities, including building city capacity to implement the wage theft ordinance, educating workers and employers about rights and responsibilities, tracking complaints and enforcement information, and adding municipal heat protections for workers. They discussed whether the ordinance’s references to permits apply to building permits; the committee plans to seek clarification from the city solicitor and relevant city departments, including ISD and licensing officials, before developing related guidance or recommendations.

Members reviewed wage-theft enforcement cases identified by the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office and discussed educational outreach rather than punitive communications. Action items include preparing drafts of a committee announcement, an employer information letter, and a wage-theft fact sheet; coordinating with city staff and the Attorney General’s Office; and considering outreach through local media and city communications channels. The next meeting was scheduled for November 18. No procurement activity, spending decisions, or contract awards were identified.
