The City of Saginaw Planning Commission met on October 27, 2026. The commission held a public hearing on a request to add “Strickland” signs below the street signs at Johnson Street and North 7th Street, honoring the Strickland family. The commission approved the request by a 5–1 roll-call vote; the recommendation will be forwarded to City Council for final determination. A public commenter also raised concerns about neighborhood upkeep and services on Saginaw’s east side. No contracts, purchases, or other procurement actions were identified.

The commission approved a request for staff to review the legality of potential amendments to the city’s data center ordinance, addressing water-system protections during emergencies, facility noise monitoring, public accountability for generator options, access to compliance information, and funding for eventual decommissioning. It also approved staff review of guidelines for street-name signage honoring individuals and directed staff to research and develop a possible bylaw amendment on unexcused absences for consideration at the November 2026 meeting. These were requests for review or development, not adopted ordinance or bylaw changes.
