The Bradley County Road Committee met on October 28, 2026, to review road safety, paving, bridge, and development-related transportation issues. No new contract awards or project spending approvals were reported. Staff said the Pleasant Grove Place bridge, fully funded by TDOT, has reopened after Wright Brothers won the bid and completed the work; the Old Lower River Road bridge is built and expected to open by December. Old Alabama Road paving is complete, Old Chattanooga Pike paving is underway, and staff identified the Straw Hill Church Road area as a possible future paving priority. Railroad gates at Old Chattanooga Pike are expected to be installed by the railroad at no cost to the county, with the railroad also contributing money toward paving. Staff noted that available road-striping funds are nearly spent and that maintaining the same level of striping may require additional funding.
The committee discussed, but did not approve, several potential projects: about $550,000 for widening and guardrails on Mauy Road; roughly $200,000–$250,000 for White Oak Road slope stabilization; and about $500,000 for possible in-house widening of Peach Orchard Hill Road, pending crash data. Roundabout construction estimates discussed for Benton Pike and Venice Road were $2.2–$2.5 million, excluding land acquisition, design, and inspection, with a total cost potentially near $3 million. The committee also discussed requesting that the Planning Commission review subdivision regulations to require road-department coordination before development and consider turn-lane requirements; this was an action item, not a project approval. The Mauy Road proposal remains in the planning phase.
