The Flemington-Raritan Board of Education held a town hall on October 28, 2026, to explain a proposed $30.3 million facilities bond referendum scheduled for voter consideration on November 3. The proposal covers capital work at all six district schools, including roof and exterior repairs, HVAC and ventilation upgrades, security and accessibility improvements, classroom flooring and ceiling replacements, and gym and playground renovations. The district estimates that New Jersey would provide about $12.1 million in debt-service aid—approximately 40% of eligible costs—leaving about $18.2 million to be financed locally. Officials said expiring debt would allow the new borrowing without increasing the debt-service tax levy; they projected the debt-service portion of local school taxes would decrease if the referendum passes.
Officials described 20-year, tax-exempt bonds, with a possible bond sale in July 2027 and work expected to begin as early as summer 2027, with most projects anticipated to be completed by the end of 2028. The discussion covered project timing, state-aid risks, the district’s existing debt and reserves, and the potential cost and delay of completing repairs without referendum funding. No contract awards, bids, or spending motions were approved at the town hall; the referendum remained subject to voter approval.
