Lewis County flood-preparedness meeting, Lewis County, Washington, October 29, 2026: County Emergency Management and partner agencies reviewed the December 2025 flood response and preparations for the coming flood season. The event caused an estimated $1.1 million in individual losses and $9.8 million in county public-infrastructure damage; debris removal is ongoing. Presenters described coordination among emergency management, the Sheriff’s Office, Public Works, the National Weather Service, local responders, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, including shelters, rescue resources, road and bridge assessments, flood forecasting, and levee support. Officials emphasized evacuation warnings, avoiding closed roads, and checking on neighbors. The county flood-alert system is adding text notifications and Spanish-language options, with a goal of increasing sign-ups to 6,500.
The Army Corps described federal emergency assistance and cited a completed shoreline stabilization project in Grays Harbor County that cost less than $4 million and was delivered at no cost to that county; this was an informational example, not a Lewis County contract action. Public Works also discussed ongoing road and bridge resilience work and winter equipment readiness. No procurement decisions, contract awards, budget allocations, motions, or votes were identified.
